In July 2023, three of the airlines we serve at our Spanish airports were among the 10 most punctual airlines in Europe in their respective categories, according to the ranking prepared by the international consultancy Cirium.

  • 80% of the almost 15,000 flights operated by Iberia arrived on time.
  • 87% of the nearly 4,000 flights operated by Iberia Express arrived at their destination at the scheduled time.
  • And 74% of the more than 21,000 flights operated by Vueling were on time.

Thanks to the efforts and hard work of our 9,000 employees, we have once again achieved an important milestone for three of our major customers, around 41,000 flights on time, which is a great source of pride and recognition of the extraordinary work that each of you do.

Congratulations to the entire Iberia Airport Services team!

In Ronda Iberia July and August our handling colleague at Barajas airport, Martin Seneguis, recommends us to visit places like the Duomo (Milan Cathedral), the Pinacoteca de Brera or the Sempione park in Milan. He also advises us where to have the best views, where to walk, what to eat and what not to miss.

Martín Seneguís Buitis has been an Auxiliary Services Agent at Barajas since 2008. In this edition of the magazine, he recommends his favourite places to enjoy a few days in Milan.

THE BEST VIEWS: It is possible to take a lift or climb 256 steps to the roof of the Duomo, Milan’s grandiose cathedral, to stroll among its Gothic structures and look out over panoramic views of the entire city. Even if you opt for the stairs, it’s well worth the experience.

A WALK: Walk through the Sempione Park, the city’s largest green lung, until you reach the Sforzesco Castle. This fortress, which was built in the 14th century, now houses such interesting cultural centres as the Museum of Ancient Art, the Egyptian Museum, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Musical Instruments.

A MUSEUM: The Pinacoteca di Brera, housed in a former palace converted into a museum, exhibits one of the most important art collections in Italy and in the whole of Europe with authentic gems signed by such renowned masters as Rubens, Caravaggio and Raphael.

SHOPPING: Via Monte Napoleone is the city’s quintessential street for luxury boutiques. However, Milan also has a number of vintage shops in the Brera and Borgonuovo neighbourhoods, with more affordable options.

IF YOU COME WITH YOUR FAMILY: Milan’s extensive cultural offerings also extends to children. Its Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, for example, allows children over the age of 3 to tour the inside of the first submarine made by Italy.

DONT MISS: Visit Milan’s canals, which Leonardo da Vinci himself was involved in improving. Around them, the Navigli district is one of the liveliest to enjoy the terraces and the best atmosphere, especially at sunset.

DELICATESSEN: If you want to try one of the best Italian gelatos, visit Paganelli. This store, which Ugo Paganelli opened in 1930 next to Estación Central, offers flavors such as mascarpone cheese with caramelized figs.

At Iberia Airport Services, one of the actions we have carried out to celebrate International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, which is celebrated during the month of June and, in particular, on the 28th, is the vinyling of Airport ground equipment such as some planters and charlattes, both in Madrid and Barcelona.

Click on this link and discover the very special video that we have recorded during the process of vinyling our ground equipment and how they have been released by our fellow ambassadors of the LGTBIQ+ collective.

You can also watch it on our profile on different social networks:

Last Friday 23rd June, the Airports Management, headed by our director José Luis de Luna, visited ENVERA in its Integral Disability Centre in Colmenar Viejo.

We were able to see first-hand the social work they have been carrying out for more than 45 years, accompanying many people with disabilities on their journey through life, committed to functional diversity, and with the firm belief that “we can all be the best at something”.

During our visit to the Envera Integral Disability Centre last Friday, we toured the Special Employment Centre, where, among other jobs, the preparation of the toiletry bags that are delivered on planes or the annual rectification of 2.5 million tickets incorrectly processed at source through the Ibterm and Amadeus system are carried out. We also visited different assistance services such as the Occupational Centre and the Day Centre.

Afterwards, we were invited to participate in a zumba class in the Sports Pavilion. We were able to see that they are really good at dancing and we finished with a special Radio Terrícola programme.

We submitted to the questions of their reporters, ending with the invitation of José Luis de Luna, to visit us at Madrid Barajas airport.

“We are waiting for you”.

Pooling initiative in IBAS

Caring for the environment, energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint are at the forefront of many companies’ strategies. Iberia Airport Services has been the forerunner in this type of initiative and, as a leading agent in the handling service in Aena’s airport network, has already launched actions such as the pooling of ground equipment at PMI, REU, GRO, MAH, TFS and AGP airports, with satisfactory results.

With a view to improving sustainability and being leaders in GSE flexibility, agreements have been signed at these airports with other Ground Handling Agents (GAA) for the shared use of various families of equipment such as belts, baggage tractors, self-propelled aircraft stairs, planters, push-back or GPUs. We are also working to implement this at other airports in our network.

In addition to being an environmentally friendly system, pooling also offers a series of advantages, such as rationalising the use of equipment, achieving significant improvements in the sizing of families per fleet, in the reduction of fuel and in preventive and corrective maintenance work, thus contributing to improving the sustainability of operations and care for the environment.

Salvador López, GRO Supervisor: “It is always enriching to use different equipment and it is a way to economise on work tools. The idea of collaboration is very good”.

Ramón Guinjoan, REU Supervisor: “Given the work peaks, it is essential to be able to have the necessary equipment to deal with the operations”.

Iberia Airport Services, as part of its continuous improvement strategy, considers pooling as a way to optimise the sizing of critical families of equipment needed at each airport, discriminating the different fleets to be served in the summer or winter seasons, facilitating the improvement of productivity at a local level and contributing to the airport’s operability by providing options for handling families of ground equipment at the different airports.

1st IBAS Green Week

Coinciding with the European Union’s Green Week and World Environment Day, Iberia Airport Services has developed a series of activities for each day, with the aim of promoting care for the environment and sustainability within our handling activity.

In this Iberia Airport Services Green Week, we want to continue raising awareness and creating environmental culture in a wide range of issues related to aviation and the airport industry in particular, such as emissions reduction, waste management, energy efficiency of equipment and facilities or circular economy, among others.

With this initiative, we aim to involve as many employees as possible and encourage active participation in environmental protection.

The proposed activities are:

  • Monday, 5 June 2023: Launch of the first Digital Photography Competition, under the title “Looking towards the Environment 2023”.
  • Tuesday, 6 June 2023: On-line conference, organised by EASA, with free access upon registration. Under the title “Is the aviation sector ready for the green transition?”.
  • Wednesday, 7 June 2023: Short lectures related to the environment and airport activity.
  • Thursday, 8 June 2023: Annual Environmental Awareness Campaign: “For a greener airport”, with new training material for all our employees.
  • Friday, 9 June 2023: Summary of the publications that have echoed our Sustainability Plan, a plan of 30 initiatives with which we will reduce the environmental impact of our business and develop corporate social responsibility.

At Iberia Airport Services we are committed to a greener operation, so awareness and sensitivity is key to achieving our goals.
